Tri Ismiyati was initially able to sew simple batik bags, LAWE taught something slightly different, namely combining motifs with woven patchwork and forming them into dolls, which basically requires skills that are somewhat different from previous sewing skills.

Tri Ismiyati attended training once a week for three months. Initially, she could only make 1-3 dolls a week, but now she can make 30-35 dolls.

Before working with LAWE, Tri Ismiyati worked in a factory in Cikarang, West Java and returned to her village in Jogja after getting married, then helped her mother with farming. Currently, Tri Ismiyati still helps her mother with farming and also works on orders from LAWE. The income earned from working on dolls from LAWE helps Tri Ismi to meet her children’s domestic and school needs, and Tri Ismiyati is happy to work with LAWE because it can be done at home, she can manage her time between sewing, housework, and taking care of children.
