Preservation
Documenting & Collecting different weaving processes/techniques
We’re deeply committed to keeping Indonesia’s traditional hand-woven heritage alive. For us, preservation isn’t just about safeguarding a craft—it’s about honoring the stories, skills, and cultural richness woven into every thread. By documenting these traditions in books alongside our collaborators, we’ve created a living record of this artistry, ensuring that the techniques, patterns, and histories of our weavers aren’t lost to time. Each product we make carries forward these legacies, connecting the past to the present in a way that’s tangible and meaningful.

Partner with us to contribute to the conservation of unique weaving traditions, ensuring their legacy for future generations.
Connect and join Lawe in sustaining the artistry of cultural weaving heritage.
Workshop/ Photostory Class
Photography training
The Photostory Class is part of the Weaving for Life programme, offering scholarships aimed at young people, especially those living in weaving communities.
This class provides photography training using the participants’ available gear (either DSLR cameras or mobile phones) and writing training to provide context for the photos taken. The goal is to document and highlight stories related to weaving, and share them through their social media platforms.

The class typically runs 4-6 sessions, including training and support during the photo creation and story development process. At the end of the programme, participants present their work.
In three batches of the programme, during the National Weaving Day celebration, participants’ work is curated by mentors, and selected pieces are exhibited as part of the National Weaving Day festivities.
Join us for an immersive workshop where we unravel the art of storytelling through weaving. Let’s weave dreams together!
Weaving Advocate
Weaving Advocate is a dynamic handwoven campaign that engages and inspires the younger generation to become ambassadors of Indonesia’s rich weaving heritage.
Weaving Advocates are passionate individuals dedicated to promoting Indonesian handwoven textiles on a global stage. They share compelling stories that delve into the artistry and cultural significance of weaving—exploring the philosophy behind intricate patterns, the meticulous production process, the lives and craftsmanship of the weavers, and the profound personal and cultural meanings woven into every piece. Through their advocacy, they bridge the gap between tradition and modernity, ensuring that the beauty and value of Indonesian weaving are celebrated and preserved for generations to come.

Regeneration
Regeneration is a forward-looking initiative dedicated to discovering and nurturing the next generation of traditional Indonesian weavers.
This program is designed to educate and inspire young, creative, and innovative weavers, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to carry forward Indonesia’s rich weaving heritage.

By blending tradition with contemporary trends, we aim to promote, conserve, and enrich the cultural legacy of Indonesian textiles. Through strategic collaborations with like-minded organizations, we ensure the effective and impactful implementation of this program, fostering a vibrant future for Indonesian weaving.
Weaving Trip
Fostering Connections and Friendships through Visits to Bayan Traditional Village, North Lombok, and Eco-pounding.
Weaving Trip for the Balai Prasarana Permukiman Wilayah Nusa Tenggara Barat (BPPW NTB) Group in Bayan, North Lombok. The theme of the trip was “Fostering Connections and Friendships through Visits to Bayan Traditional Village, North Lombok, and Eco-pounding.”
The trip began with a visit to the ancient Bayan Beleq Mosque, the oldest mosque in Bayan, established around the 15th century AD. Visitors are required to wear traditional cloth to enter this area. The group then explored the terraced rice fields and visited the Jajaq Bayan weaving group to experience weaving with group members and children learning to weave at the Jajaq Bayan studio. After lunch, participants engaged in eco-pounding, a natural dyeing technique using leaves and pounding methods. Each participant took home their eco-pounding creations and tools.
Craft Class
Craft Class: Creative space for individuals of different age groups.
This LAWE activity is aimed at school-aged children to reintroduce traditional weaving, its uses, and the meanings/philosophies behind it. After the introduction, children are engaged in crafting activities, creating paintings from the smallest unusable scraps of woven fabric using sewing techniques.

This serves to teach children how to manage materials that can still be used, reducing waste, and providing stimulation for their motor skills.
Sign up now for a fun-filled 1-2 hour crafting session that caters to every skill level. Let the creativity flow!
